HILTON HEAD, S.C. — The Corbin Redhounds held their own for four innings against Richmond County, N.C. before falling, 11-2.

The Redhounds committed seven errors in the game while allowing 15 hits, as Richmond County used a five-run fifth inning to cruise to the nine-run win.

“They are a really good club,” Corbin coach Rob Ledington said. “They only lost by one to a really good Hilton Head ballclub and we only trailed 3-2 going into the fifth inning.

“The things that hurt us was seven errors,” he added. “All of them came on ground balls, too. We never quit and that’s what I liked. If we could have made the plays, I really felt like we could have made it a game.”

Richmond County led 2-0 going into the bottom of the second inning before seeing Corbin score two runs to tie the game at two apiece.

The Redhounds collected all of their hits for the game during the inning, as Austin Combs singled while Keaton Burton’s groundout scored Jacob Metzger.

Nick Vorbeck’s single scored Austin Combs and it looked as if Corbin was going to make a game of it.

Richmond County connected with seven hits during the fifth inning and scored five runs to take control of the game. Corbin allowed three more runs in the seventh inning, as Richmond County managed to wrap-up the game.

“We just didn’t play well defensively,” Ledington said. “We made those errors and it just kind of snowballed on us from there.”

Vorbeck and Austin Combs led Corbin with a hit apiece while Austin Combs took a loss on the mound while tossing 4 1/3 innings while allowing 13 hits and six earned runs. Metzger came in and tossed two innings, surrendering a hit and two earned runs while TC Collins pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed a hit.
