What’s the scoop: The Lady Cardinals are winners of 13 straight games and still aren’t getting a lot of love across the state. South Laurel has beaten some very good teams along the way — North Laurel, Harrison County and Madison Central, but still can’t crack the top 15 in the state.
Surprise, surprise: The Lady Cardinals have a good chance to show everyone just how good they are today against 12th Region power Boyle County. This should be an interesting test for James Burns’ squad. A win over the Lady Rebels might be the win South Laurel needs.
2. North Laurel Lady Jaguars (14-9)
What’s the scoop: The Lady Jaguars have a good shot at becoming the first team in state history to win its 600th overall game. That is what is at stake against Middlesboro today.
Surprise, surprise: North Laurel still has struggled at times and needs to finish the regular season off with some impressive wins.

What’s the scoop: The Lady Tigers are winners of eight straight now and look to be peaking at the right time. They have an outside shot at winning out the rest of the regular season.
4. Corbin Lady Redhounds (13-10)
What’s the scoop: The Lady Redhounds drop a spot after going 2-1 this past week. Corbin has a chance to surprise, but not until the Lady Redhounds improve defensively.
5. Harlan County Lady Black Bears (10-9)
What’s the scoop: Harlan County moves back into the top five after defeating Middlesboro this past week, 6-3.

1. South Laurel Cardinals (15-3)
What’s the scoop: The defending 13th Region champions saw their nine-game win streak come to an end after losing to Pulaski County, 9-2, but South Laurel responded with an impressive 8-2 win over Madison Southern.
Surprise, surprise: The Cardinals have some big games in front of them that should prepare them for the road ahead once post-season play begins.
2. Whitley County Colonels (17-6)
What’s the scoop: Why not? The Colonels are the hottest team in the 13th Region right now with a seven-game win streak and they are doing it with some mighty fine pitching.
Surprise, surprise: Whitley County’s Alex Rose has asserted himself as one of the top players in the region. Not only can he pitch, but he’s a pretty darn good hitter, too.

What’s the scoop: The Black Bears struggle at the plate, but they are a sound team on defense and on the pitcher’s mound.
4. North Laurel Jaguars (13-9)
What’s the scoop: The Jaguars have been playing pretty darn good lately. Darrin McWhorter has received solid pitching and now the key is to continue to get solid hitting as well. This is a team that can surprise.

What’s the scoop: The Tigers barely make the cut after winning only one game during their last five. Clay County is another team that can surprise. The Tigers still remain as the only team in the region that has beaten South Laurel.
