CORBIN —

By Les Dixon / Sports Editor

With the high school basketball season over, I figured it would be nice to maybe just roll out the details of the 13th Region Boys and Girls basketball teams dating back to when the 13th Region realigned during the 2005-06 season.

After looking back at all of the teams wins and losses during the past eight seasons (including Cawood, Cumberland and Evarts), I was surprised to see some of the numbers I ran across.

So with that said, let’s get this party started.

Boys by the numbers

2 — Clay County and Corbin are the only teams that have never had a losing season since the new realignment.

7 – Clay County leads the way with the most 20-plus winning seasons. The most the Tigers have had during a season came during this past season with 26.

29 — The most wins by a team in a season belongs to both Corbin and South Laurel. Corbin won 29 games during the 2008-09 season while South Laurel accomplished the feat during the 2006-07 season.

0 — The least winning season belongs to both Evarts and Oneida Baptist. Of course, Evarts only had three losing seasons compared to Oneida Baptist’s seven (didn’t have a team in 2011-12).

7 — The number of teams that haven’t had one season of at least 20 wins. Those teams are — Harlan, Red Bird, Oneida Baptist, Whitley County, Evarts, Williamsburg and Lynn Camp.

26 — The most losses in a season. Whitley County posted a 5-26 mark during the 2011-12 season.

.759 — Best winning percentage goes to the Corbin Redhounds, who have went 189-60 during the eight-year time span. Clay County was second with a .696 mark (177-77).

.123 — Worst winning percentage goes to Evarts, who went a combined 9-64 during the three years the Wildcats participated. Oneida Baptist came close with a .280 mark (42-108).

189 — Most wins goes to the Corbin Redhounds.

9 — Least wins goes to Evarts and close behind was Oneida Baptist with 42.

Now it’s time to see, which districts have had success in regional tournament play since the realignment.

5 — The 50th District leads the way with five 13th Region titles while the 49th District has two, 52nd District has one and the 51st District has zero.

0 — The 51st District has the least amount of 13th Region championships.
