CORBIN — The Corbin Redhound tennis team got the season started on a positive Friday, picking up an 8-1 win over Bell County. The Redhounds stumbled Saturday against Lexington Christian Academy, but head coach Nickie Dixon said she was more than happy with her team’s performance in the season opener.
“It felt great to win our first match of the season,” Dixon said. “The boys have been practicing hard and if they had first match jitters, they didn't show it today.
“We have a lot of new players on our team this year and I was happy to get them out on the court in this match as well,” she added. “Andrew Bingham, Zane Maguet and Drew Beecham all got their first wins as a Redhound today.
In singles play, Connor Maguet, Harrison Reedy, Josh Jewell, Andrew Reedy, Bingham, Zane Maguet and Beecham all picked up wins.
The teams of Jewell and Seth Heinss and Harrison and Andrew Reedy picked up doubles wins as well, while Bingham and Zane Maguet suffred the lone loss of the match for the Redhounds.
On Saturday, Dixon’s squad fell to LCA 3-2, with Connor Maguet and Harrison Reedy grabbing the two wins, while Andrew Reedy and Beacham fell in singles play.
Heinss and Josh Jewell fell in doubles play.
