Whitley County tennis teams pick up impressive wins

CORBIN — By Les Dixon / Staff Writer

WHITLEY COUNTY — The Whitley County Colonel and Lady Colonel tennis teams picked up some impressive wins this past week by sweeping McCreary Central while the Lady Colonels knocked off Williamsburg.

The Colonels cruised to an easy win, picking up six wins in singles action while going 1-0 in doubles play against the Raiders.

“With four returning players from our varsity line-up from last year, Jake Foley moving up to varsity and our newest addition, Max Murray, we were able to sweep McCreary across the board,” Whitley County coach Colby Wilson said. “It was great for all of our players to get their first match nerves out of the way.”

The girls’ team cruised to an easy 5-1 in singles action against McCreary Central.

“We are blessed to add three new girls to our varsity line-up this year with Lexi Hamblin, Emma Zehr, and Hayven Hinkle,” Wilson said. “All of our top six players are returning from a very strong season last year and their experience shined against the Raiders.”
