Well folks, it’s that time of the year again. Yep, it’s time to check out my ole crystal ball, and pick a winner for this week’s Sweet Sixteen Tournament. If my picking during the 13th Region Boys and Girls Tournaments are any indication, I might do pretty darn good this time around.
Well, let’s cut to the chase, and get down to business, but before I do, be sure to check out the Times-Tribune each day. We will be packed with Sweet Sixteen action, as yours truly will be covering each and every game.
Hopkinsville 78, South Oldham 57
Hoptown could very well be the best team in the Sweet Sixteen. They’re athletic and quick, which spells t-r-o-u-b-l-e for South Oldham.
Trinity 69, Owensboro 53
The Shamrocks knocked off Sweet Sixteen favorite Ballard in the 7th Region title game. Look for Trinity to cruise past the Devils in fine fashion.
Scott County 77, Fleming County 59
Yep, today’s first three games could all be blowouts. And with that said, look for Billy Hicks’ Cardinals to dominate Fleming County.
Campbell County 57, Johnson Central 53
The last time Campbell County reached the state tournament, former South Laurel forward Derek Coffey tipped in a last second shot to beat the Camels in the 2001 Sweet Sixteen. Look for Campbell County to have better fortunes this time around.
Wayne County 67, McCracken County 42
Rodney Woods’ squad has only one loss on the season, and will keep it that way against McCracken County.
Knott Central 66,
Bowling Green 58
The Patriots should cruise in this one, but I’m thinking Bowling Green surprises, and hangs tough.
Pleasure Ridge Park 71, Bardstown 60
This could be a dandy. Look for the game to be close for a while, but in the end the Panthers are just too much for Bardstown.
Covington Catholic 69, Clay County 57
If the Tigers continue to play like they have since the beginning of February, they could win this game. But Covington Catholic is a very deliberate team, and will chip away at the Tigers.
Hopkinsville 77, Trinity 73
Now this one will be a dandy. Look for Hoptown to squeak by.
Scott County 83, Campbell County 66
Billy Hicks’ Cardinals will pull away in the second half.
Wayne County 62, Knott Central 58
Rodney Woods will making his second appearance in the Final Four.
Pleasure Ridge Park 71, Covington Catholic 70
Look for this game to be a barn burner from the get-go.
Scott County 66
Yep, the Tigers will find a way to pull this one out.
Pleasure Ridge Park 67, Wayne County 60
I’m pulling for the Cardinals in this one, but Dale Mabry’s squad will find a way to win.
Hopkinsville 78, Pleasure Ridge Park 71
Look for Hoptown to be cutting down the nets.
