Wildcats fall on the road to Burgin

BURGIN — A rough start doomed the Lynn Camp Wildcats in their season opener Tuesday as they dropped a 56-44 decision to Burgin.

The Wildcats fell behind 13-0 to start the game and only managed to score two points in the first quarter en route to the loss. On a positive note, Lynn Camp battled back to tie things up at 25 apiece by the time halftime rolled around.

Afterward, Lynn Camp head coach Clyde Dixon talked about the loss and the impact a few injuries had on the game.

“We were playing without our two most experienced players due to injuries,” Dixon said. “Then Smith and MacFarland stayed in foul trouble for a while before fouling out.

“That left us with nothing but young guys on the floor who saw their first time in a varsity game,” he added.

Justin Hammonds led the Wildcats in scoring with 16 points and Matt Trosper added 11.

The loss sends Lynn Camp to 0-1 on the season, but Dixon said the game was a learning experience for his team.

“Coach Kirk had his team playing well and this was a good experience for our team,” Dixon said. “We just have to get over the injuries as soon as we can.”
