MANCHESTER — After going toe-to-toe with both North and South Laurel over the past week, the Corbin Lady Redhounds turned in a not so stellar game against Clay County.

A three-run second inning turned out to be enough for Clay County to pull off a 3-2 upset win over Corbin.

“We were flat,” Corbin coach Chris Hart said. “We just need to regroup and get ready for Thursday’s game.”

Corbin took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after an RBI groundout by Kelley Farley. But it didn’t take long for the Lady Tigers to answer.

Some miscues turned out to hurt the Lady Redhounds in the bottom second inning, as Clay County took a 3-1 edge.

Hart’s squad cut its deficit to 3-2 in the fourth inning after Whitley Gatliff’s double scored Danielle Lipsteuer, but Corbin couldn’t push across any more runs despite outhitting the Lady Tigers, 6-3, for the game.

“We got some hits, but we just couldn’t drive in any runs,” Hart said. “This is the first loss we’ve had this season I thought we should have won. They had that one inning and it put us behind and we couldn’t come back.”

Corbin’s Hannah Hart took the loss on the mound, but turned in another solid effort, allowing no earned runs while surrendering only three hits and finishing the game with 10 strikeouts. Lindsey Barton and Callie Schoolcraft each led the Lady Redhounds with two hits apiece.
