MIDDLESBORO — The North Laurel Jaguars managed to hold off Middlesboro and defeat the Yellow Jackets 3-2 in hardcourt action, but the Lady Jaguars weren’t as fortunate, losing, 5-1.
“We were right in this match, and it could have gone either way,” North Laurel coach Bob Smith said of his Lady Jaguars’ loss. “We lost a few tight matches, and the matches that didn't finish were tight as well. I was very pleased with Pooja (Kanthawar) and Caroline (Moore) with perhaps their best match of the year. They jumped on them early and never let them get in the match. Huge outing for us.
“This should put us in good position for seeding at regionals with two more really big matches for them later in the week vs. Corbin and Clay,” he added. The Jaguars were shorthanded against Middlesboro, but still picked up the win.
“We were able to scrape by without Justin and Ryan available to us, and Dakota getting injured with a wrist injury,” Smith said. “Arjun (Kanthawar) and Spencer (Bolton) got an important win against a quality team.”
