Clay Blanks Corbin

CORBIN — By Les Dixon / Sports Editor

CORBIN — Corbin and Clay County hooked up in a regional battle with the Tigers pulling out a slim 2-0 win over the Redhounds despite seeing Corbin’s Chad Brown turn in a solid effort on the mound.

Brown tossed 6 1/3 of an inning on the mound, allowed seven hits and only one earned run while striking out four batters.

“I thought Chad Brown did a great job out there for us,” Corbin coach Rob Ledington said. “We gave up two unearned runs and made three errors, but we did play decent defensively.

“But to sum things up quickly, we just couldn’t get a timely hit,” he added. “We showed tonight we can compete with them, but we just didn’t get any timely hits.”

The Tigers scored runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 2-0 edge, while Corbin (11-7) finished the game with three hits with Taylor Combs going 2-for-4 and Derek Terry finished the contest 1-for-4.
