WILLIAMSBURG — The Corbin Redhounds got another solid effort on the mound from junior starter Kevin Goins Monday, who went the distance for the fourth straight time out in an 8-2 win over Williamsburg.

Taylor Combs connected for a three-run home run in the second inning, and Austin O’Neill came through with his second straight multi-hit game to lead the Redhounds’ offense in the win.

Afterward, Corbin coach Rob Ledington praised his starting pitcher and said there was one word that comes to mind when it comes to Goins and his efforts so far this season.

“Dependable is the word I would use first when talking about Kevin,” Ledington said. “He’s been just that for us this season and when we need a good game I know I can go to him and be pretty confident.

“He’s just the kind of kid that you know isn’t going to get rattled in certain situations and he keeps the same state of mind no matter what the situation,” he added. “I think he was the same way on the basketball court and that’s just a great quality to have and it's nice to have someone like that to go to.”

Corbin took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but Taylor Combs broke things open in the top of the second inning when he hit an Ethan Wilson pitch over the left-field wall to put the Redhounds on top 4-0.

Williamsburg trimmed the gap to 4-1 in the third inning when Ryan Bowlin came through with an RBI single. The Yellow Jackets plated another run in the fourth inning when Logan Hamblin doubled to score Jon Teague, cutting the deficit to 4-2.

Corbin scored a pair of runs in the fifth to open the gap to 7-2 when a one-out sacrifice by Corey Ledington brought Nick Vorbeck in from third, and an RBI single by O’Neill scored Andrew Jones.

The Redhounds added a run in the top of the seventh when O’Neill doubled to bring Ledington around to score, pushing the lead to 8-2.

Goins set the Yellow Jackets down in order in the seventh to close things out. He finished the game with six strikeouts.
