CORBIN —When the 2013 10th Region Golf Tournament gets underway at Eagles Nest Country Club today, the odds on favorite to bring home the championship trophy for the second consecutive season is the Corbin Redhounds.
Despite graduating several key golfers last season, Brad Harris’ squad is firing on all cylinders after a 14-stroke tournament win at the very same site last week thanks to a team score of 299.
The Redhounds are anchored by a Connor Maguet, who grabbed first place in the team’s final tune-up of the season after a playoff hole to knock off Wayne County’s Corbin Kirksey after the pair finished in a tie with a round of 71.
Maguet wasn’t the only golfer to turn in a solid round for Corbin though, as each of Corbin’s five golfers scored in the 70s for the tournament. Alex Davis finished with a 73, Henry Moore shot a 77, Russ Tolliver finished with a 78 and John Childress finished with a 79. The top four scores were used in the final scoring, giving the Redhounds a score of 299 when all was said and done.
Corbin head coach Brad Harris said he likes the way his team is playing at this point of the season.
“This is the kind of effort we hope for every time we tee it up,” Harris said. “We want to get a couple of really good low scores and for the other guys to finish with a good round as well.
“We’ve been working hard on our game and we’ve had good scores every tournament we have been in from a few of the players,” he added. “To finally get everybody to put it together in one tournament like we did is what we’ve been waiting for this season.”
