Les Dixon's Daily District Pick'em

CORBIN — Boy, this week went by fast. Now it’s time to see who will be coming out of the boys’ and girls’ district title games in the 49th, 50th, 51st and 52nd District Tournaments.

It’s been an exciting week of basketball, but believe me, things are going to get even more exciting next week.

Girls

49th District

Finals

Clay Co. 62, North Laurel 45

The Lady Tigers are a team everyone better keep an eye on. They could make a run, once region tournament play begins. Clay County just has too many weapons for North Laurel to handle.

Boys

49th District

Finals

Clay County 77, Jackson County 72

I’ve been saying all season Clay County is the best team in the 49th District, and they’ll prove me right tonight. Look for Chip McDaniel, Trey Farmer, Wes Wolfe and Blake Smith to have big games for the Tigers.

50th District

Finals

Williamsburg 62, Corbin 59

The Yellow Jackets already pulled off one upset, so I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt, and say they’ll do it again. It’s not going to be easy, though. The Redhounds are tough to beat at home.

51st District

Finals

Knox Central 81, Barbourville 64

No team in the 13th Region is playing as well as the Panthers. Knox Central is eight or nine players deep, and that’s just going to make them hard to beat. Barbourville will hang close for a while, but look for the Panthers to pull away in the fourth quarter.

52nd District

Finals

Middlesboro 77, Bell County 71

It’s that time of year again. Yep, the time the Yellow Jackets start to pull off some upsets. Well, this game is at Middlesboro, and I expect the Yellow Jackets to pull off their second upset in a row.
