CORBIN — By John Stepp For The Times Tribune

There may not be a bigger rivalry in the 13th Region than the one between the Whitley County Lady Colonels and the Corbin Lady Redhounds. Not only are they two of the top teams in the region, but they will be battling for the 50th District crown tonight.

Whitley County won the first two meetings of the season, while Corbin took the third. But it's tonight's game that has people on the edge of their seats.

The game will feature two of the most experienced teams in the region. Corbin is the defending 50th District and 13th Region champs, with four senior starters returning from that squad. Whitley County has a similar starting lineup with three seniors and two juniors. With that kind of leadership, it's going to take a tremendous effort to come out a winner.

“Whitley has a fantastic team with a lot of very good players and competing against them is a chore for anyone, but we are very familiar with each other,” Corbin coach Jason McDaniel said. “It's almost impossible to completely stop a couple of their players so we will focus on containing them the best we can.”

Whitley County coach Donnie Jones had similar words about Corbin.

“I think we matchup pretty good with them. They're a good team and we feel like we are a good team, too,” Jones said. “They are more of a guard oriented team, so they have the advantage there, and we really play two posts, and we have the advantage inside. It really will come down to who plays the hardest.”

Both teams are able to knock down shots from outside, and they each put tremendous pressure on the ball, making it hard for their opponents' to score.

“Both teams shoot the ball very well and as I have stated before, the team who is the most efficient on both ends will have a great chance to cut down the nets,” McDaniel said. “We have our work cut out for us, but we are really looking forward to throw the ball up tomorrow.”
