LYNN CAMP — Winners of its last four out of five games, the Lynn Camp Wildcats returned home to face Middlesboro on Monday night. The Yellow Jackets eliminated Lynn Camp from the All 'A' Classic earlier in the season and once again, Austin Poindexter led Middlesboro to their second win against Lynn Camp on the season by a final score of 83-70. Coach Eric Swords commented on his team's effort following the contest.

“I thought our effort was good,” Swords said. “We didn't rotate back in transition a couple of times and it got them going. I thought we battled back great there in the second half.

“We cut it to five at one time and had a couple of chances, but it seemed like anytime we would cut into the lead, Poindexter or Foister would make a big play,” he added.

The Yellow Jackets took advantage of several first-half turnovers by Lynn Camp, scoring on several of the Wildcat miscues. Middlesboro utilized a 23-11 run in the second quarter to pull away from Lynn Camp in the first half. Middlesboro led by as many as 20 points and Poindexter's 14-point scoring effort in the period helped give Middlesboro a 42-25 halftime lead.

Lynn Camp fought back in the third quarter as Skylar McFarland rallied the Wildcats with 11 points in the quarter, capped by a three-point basket at the end of the period, cutting the Middlesboro lead to 53-46.

The Wildcats narrowed the margin to five points on an Austin Allen basket to begin the fourth quarter, but the Yellow Jackets built another run of their own.

Middlesboro went to Poindexter and Foister throughout the final quarter and the lead soon grew to double digits midway through the period. Lynn Camp was unable to catch the Yellow Jackets going down the stretch.

“Those two kids (Poindexter and Foister) are tough to stop,” Swords said. “Foister is as good as any guard in the region, and Poindexter, when he's ready to play, it's hard to keep him off the boards.

“It's about impossible to shut those two down when they want to play,” he added.

Poindexter finished with 37 points on the night for Middlesboro. Skylar McFarland led Lynn Camp with 25 on the evening.
