WILLIAMSBURG — The Barbourville Lady Tigers snapped a three-game losing streak Thursday, cruising to a 56-28 win over the Williamsburg Lady yellow Jackets to improve to 10-9 on the season.
Kara Erslan led the way with 26 points, while Kelsey Erslan added 11. The senior twins grabbed 11 rebounds apiece giving each a double-double for the game.
Reagan Hubbard and Laken Woolum each added seven points for Barbourville, while Amber Mills chipped in five points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Barbourville coach Andrea Hillard said she was pleased with her team’s defense in the win, but was quick to point out her team isn’t shooting the basketball as well as it should.
“The defensive effort tonight was terrific,” Hillard said. “The girls went out and gave very few wide open shots and did a great job at limiting them to one shot.
“Offensively we still didn’t shoot as well as I would like (35 percent,” she added. “However, we attacked much better in our offensive transition.”
Barbourville jumped ahead 15-9 at the end of the first quarter and stretched the gap to 26-13 by the time the first half came to a close.
The Lady Tigers held their opponent to four points in the third quarter, stretching the gap to 41-17 with eight minutes to play in the contest.
Hillard’s squad scored 15 points in a quarter for the third time in the game to close out the game for the 56-28 win.
