I know it’s June and the summer heat has everybody thinking about jumping in a pool or guzzling a cold beverage of some sort, but it’s never too early to think about high school football.
Whether the action is top notch or not this upcoming season, one thing you can count on is seeing some familiar faces in different places on the sidelines when the 2014 season kicks off.
We’ll talk about a few of the coaching changes just to wet your appetite for now.
After the hiring of new head football coach Justin Haddix, rumors were flying around regarding his future coaching staff. I’m not sure of everyone involved as far as who will be on the sidelines, but I have been told that Corbin Educational Center Principal Tom Greer has been added to the staff. It will be interesting to see what kind of atmosphere is on the Redhounds’ sideline.
Lynn Camp Wildcats
The team that has had perhaps the greatest overhaul of coaches is the Lynn Camp Wildcats. One thing I can say about Lynn Camp’s administration is that I think they are determined to put a quality product on the field when it comes to football and if they don’t, it will not be due to a lack of coaching. Three names added to the Wildcats’ staff this season are former Union College head football coach Tommy Reid, former South Laurel Middle School coach Allen Harris and long time Corbin Redhounds’ offensive coordinator, Willard Farris. Lynn Camp head coach Phil Russell jokingly made a comment a while back that “one way to succeed was to surround yourself with quality coaches.” Russell and company have done just that and I have a feeling that as a result, this season will be a lot of fun for Lynn Camp football fans.
