SOUTH LONDON — After being down 3-0, the Corbin (White) Minor League All Stars scored 13 unanswered runs in the final two innings to defeat North Laurel (Blue) and advance to the semi-finals of the Area 2 losers’ bracket on Tuesday.
Corbin’s bats came alive in the bottom of the third inning with a two-out rally that scored four runs. Quentin Botner started the rally with a single, and later scored on a North Laurel error. After consecutive walks from the next two batters, a triple by Peyton Addison brought two runners home to tie the game at three apiece. Addison then added a run of his own after a single by Jacob Parker.
“We started off slow and struggled. We hit the ball right to them at the beginning of the game, but then our bats came on and we started hitting the baseball and everybody got fired up,” said Corbin coach Jody Botner. “We always start off slow, it seems like, but we came back and played really good. We hit the ball really good.”
Corbin held North Laurel scoreless in the top of the third and added nine more runs to get the win. Corbin collected seven hits in the inning.
Addison led Corbin at the plate with a triple and single with three runs batted in. Botner added a double and single with two RBI. Cody Cox picked up the win for Corbin, allowing just two hits while striking out seven.
The loss eliminated North Laurel from the double elimination tournament.
With the win, Corbin will advance to the semi-finals of the losers’ bracket to take on the winner of Corbin (Red) and Clay County No. 2.
