Cats clinch winning season

Tigers improve to 16-10

RED BIRD — The Lynn Camp Wildcats knocked off Red Bird for the third time this season, grabbing a 79-60 win on the road in their regular season finale Tuesday.

The win is the 16th of the season for the Wildcats (16-14), but more importantly, assures Lynn Camp of a winning season. Afterward, Lynn Camp coach Clyde Dixon said he was proud of his team for the win and the season as a whole.

“This was an important win for our program tonight,” Dixon said. “This win allows us to finish with a winning season no matter what happens the rest of the way.”

Zach Smith paced the Wildcats with a 29-point effort, while Skylar McFarland added 19 and Matt Trosper poured in 11.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair as Smith scored eight of his 29 points to help the Wildcats grab a 14-12 lead. The Wildcats pushed the gap to 37-30 at halftime.

Lynn Camp pushed the pace in the third quarter, outscoring their opponent 27-10 in the period as McFarland scored eight points in the quarter to help give his team a 64-40 lead with eight minutes to play.

Red Bird got the best of the Wildcats in the final period with a 20-15 effort, but the Wildcats were able to come away with the 79-60 win.
