LYNN CAMP — The Lynn Camp Wildcats picked up their fourth straight win Monday, knocking off Casey County, 54-50.

Matt Trosper led the way for Lynn Camp with 14 points, while Zach Smith added 13 and Justin Hammonds chipped in 12.

Despite jumping out to the early lead, the Wildcats had to hold on as the game wound down. Wildcats’ head coach Clyde Dixon said he was proud of the way his team played, despite a few mistakes.

“We came out and played about as good as we could for the first three quarters, then held on in the fourth,” Dixon said. “Casey County never gave up and made a string run.

“We made some bad defensive decisions and they shot 18 free throws in the final quarter,” he added. “The bottom line is we won our fourth game in a row against a well-coached, athletic team.”

The Wildcats used a 12-9 first-quarter effort to grab an early lead and extended that gap to 28-17 as halftime rolled around.

Lynn Camp was able to extend that margin to 45-31 as the third quarter wound down, but that’s when the tables turned for the Wildcats.

Casey County held the Wildcats to just nine points in the final eight minutes, outscoring them 21-9 in the fourth period.

The Wildcats managed to hold on for the win, but it wasn’t easy.

“Senior leadership is huge this time of year,” Dixon said. “Zach (Smith) and Mat (Trosper) stepped it up again tonight along with Justin Hammonds to pull this one out.

“We’ll be going for five in a row tomorrow at home,” Dixon added. “These kids have to learn to put teams away and understand they can be pretty good.”

Lynn Camp will be back in action today when they host Red Bird at 7:30 p.m.
