Lynn Camp coach Clyde Dixon wanted his team to gain some momentum going into Tuesday’s 13th Region All ‘A’ Classic Tournament matchup with Barbourville and they did just that by defeating Monticello at home Saturday, 65-45.
Lynn Camp (9-10) took advantage of its size edge over the Trojans and cruised to an easy 20-point win.
“We made a goal to get the ball inside and not fall in love with the three-ball,” Dixon said. “We received 24 points and 11 rebounds for Zach Smith — he is doing a great job for us. Matt Trosper took care of the ball, ran our offense and had 11 points and eight assists. It was a good win.”
Big man Zach Smith connected on eight-of-14 shot attempts while leading the way with 24 points and 11 rebounds in the win. Justin Hammonds also scored in double figures with 13 points. He also had five rebounds while connecting on five-of-12 shot attempts from the floor.
The Wildcats built a 21-10 edge in the first quarter and entered the fourth quarter with a slim 43-39 lead. But that’s when Dixon’s team took over by outscoring Monticello 22-6 the remainder of the game to pick up the victory.
