BARBOURVILLE — It didn’t take long for the Barbourville Tigers to take care of business on their home court in the opening game of the 2013-2014 campaign.
The Tigers had an easy night at the office and easily defeated the Jellico Blue Devils 85-43.
Barbourville was prepared for action on Tuesday as the Tigers were nothing less than what would normally be expected from a Dinky Phipps-coached basketball squad.
Jellico posed no threat to the Tigers. Barbourville controlled the tempo by utilizing speed, ball handling, effective shot selection, rebounding, and points off turnovers to put the game out of hand in the first quarter.
Phipps went to his bench early in the contest as the Tigers led 21-4 at the end of the first quarter of play. Barbourville’s balanced scoring attack would become evident.
“I’m very pleased,” said Phipps. “We came out real well tonight and we attacked the goal.
“I thought it was a total team effort. I’m very proud of my kids,” “They all done what they had to do to win and I’m very proud of them.”
