PRESTONSBURG — Like they’ve done several times over the past few weeks, the Knox County All Stars fell behind early, but came back to earn the win.

Franklin-Simpson plated a pair of runs in the top of the third inning, but Scott Payne’s team recovered in a hurry as they scored three runs in the bottom of the inning and held on for the 3-2 victory.

The good news for Knox County is they picked up the win. The bad news was they only tallied one hit in the process.

After the first two batters of the inning reached base, Franklin-Simpson scored a pair of runs with two outs in the third inning. A walk by Tucker Holland to load the bases led to a two-run error against Knox County. Another base-on-balls loaded the bases a second time in the inning, but Holland forced the batter to fly out to a waiting Thomas Jackson to end the inning.

Knox County responded in the bottom of the third inning with a pair of walks and a passed ball that scored Jackson to cut the lead to 2-1.

A single by Trey Owens, which was Knox County’s only hit of the game, followed by a walk to Holland loaded the bases with just one out. A passed ball allowed Jalen Adams to score, tying things up at two runs apiece.

After a strikeout by Peyton Payne for the second out of the inning, Holland scored from third on the third passed ball of the inning against Franklin-Simpson, giving Knox County a 3-2 lead.

Holland pitched a scoreless fourth and fifth innings before giving way to Payne in the sixth. Payne worked a scoreless sixth inning to earn the save.
