Lady Jags win pair, while Jaguars knock off Harlan

CORBIN — By Les Dixon / Staff Writer

NORTH LAUREL — The North Laurel Lady Jaguars managed to pick up two wins the past couple of days with victories over both Harlan and Rockcastle County while the Jaguar tennis team also picked up a victory over the Green Dragons.

“Rockcastle is just starting their program, and they have a lot of interest and enthusiasm and will get better and better,” North Laurel coach Bob Smith said of his Lady Jaguars’ win over Rockcastle County. “Hiba (Khan) had a tough loss in singles, but I was proud of her as she and Ifrah (Hammad) came back to get a close win in doubles.

“Our girls picked up another win against a short-handed Harlan team,” he added. “When we have all our top girls available, it really makes a big difference.”

Smith was also pleased with the way his boys team cruised to an easy 7-2 win over Harlan.

“Solid win for the boys against a good Harlan team,” he said. “Both Arjun (Kanthawar) and Hasan (Salim) came back from being down early to win a couple of tight matches for us in singles. That was crucial to get a couple of early wins because we were a little deeper than them at the bottom of the lineup.”

The word hero is used a little too loosely for my taste these days.
To be honest, it’s been used way too much for a long time and I’m just as guilty as the next guy.
