NORTH LAUREL — Logan Mallory came up big for the North Laurel Jaguars Monday, coming through with his best outing of the season in a 6-1 win over Knox Central.
Mallory gave up four hits and walked two, while striking out 14 Panthers as he went the distance for North Laurel, improving Darren McWhorter’s squad to 9-8 on the season.
McWhorter said he was impressed with Mallory’s effort Monday, especially considering the team was coming in having played three games in the past three days.
“This was by far Logan’s best outing of the year and we really needed it,” McWhorter said. “We lost to Clay Friday and gave a game away Saturday against South Oldham, so I was unsure of how the kids were going to come in here and respond, even though we won the second game we played Saturday.
“But we got the win and that’s what matters,” he added. “Hopefully we can continue to play better every time out and improve as the season progresses.”
Knox Central took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, but the Jaguars answered with three runs of their own to grab a 3-1 lead after three.
North Laurel struck for three more runs in the fifth inning to push the lead to 6-1 and that’s where the scoring ended for both teams.
North Laurel’s Ethan Maxey was 3-for-4 at the plate, while Zac Hurley was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.
North Laurel will be back in action Thursday when they travel to Barbourville and then the Jaguars will be back home against crosstown rival South Laurel on Friday.
