CORBIN — A late-afternoon shower moved through the Corbin area Monday afternoon, forcing the Corbin Little League to postpone tournament play until Tuesday afternoon.
The league was scheduled to begin its coach pitch, 9-10-year-old and 11-12-year-old league tournaments today at Rotary Park. League volunteers as well as Corbin Recreation workers had been working on the two primary fields for about two hours before a heavy downpour came and wahsed all hopes of playing Monday's games.
League President Jeff Chadwell said the games will be moved back a day, given that each group was scheduled a day off in the case of inclement weather.
“Basically we're just pushing everything back a day since we had the scheduled days off to work with,” Chadwell said. “The main thing we have to keep in mind is player safety and if the fields are in bad shape, they're not going to be safe to play on.
“Games scheduled for Monday are pushed back a day, which allows us to keep our championship games scheduled for Friday evening,” he added.
Play is scheduled to start today with the Minor League Tournament getting underway at 5:30 p.m., while Coach Pitch will start at 6 p.m. and the opening game for Little League will begin at 7:30 p.m. For more information or schedule changes, visit the league's website at www.corbinlittleague.org
