FORT WALTON BEACH, FLA. — After beginning their trip with a 7-0 loss to Marshall County, the North Laurel Lady Jaguars needed to pick up a win in the worst way.
They got it.
The Lady Jaguars evened their record at 4-4 on the season after blanking Tennessee’s Obion County Central High School, 6-0.
North Laurel began its scoring ways in the second inning, as Vanessa Smith singled and was driven in after a double by Farris Strong. Shawna Collins followed with a run-scoring double of her own to make the score 2-0.
The Lady Jaguars added two more runs in the third inning, as Sidney Herrell collected her second hit of the game and then proceeded to steal second base.
Herrell scored after to make the score 5-0 after touching home plate on a double steal that saw Kailin Yantz end up at second base. Yantz was driven in by Blake Johnson, who connected with a run-scoring single which made the score 4-0.
North Laurel added two insurance runs in the fifth inning, as Yantz delivered a double and was driven in thanks to a run-scoring hit by Vanessa Smith. Strong followed by driving in Smith.
Strong finished the game with two hits and two RBIs while Herrell had two hits, one run scored and three steals. Yantz also had two hits and two runs scored while Smith collected two hits, one RBI and one run scored.
Megan Baldwin picked up the win on the mound for the Lady Jaguars, tossing all seven innings while allowing five hits and finishing the game with five strikeouts.
