LONDON — The All-Star season came to an end for the South London 11-12-year-old team thanks to a 2-1 nail-biter as they fell to Clay County in the loser’s bracket semifinals.
South Laurel jumped ahead early with a run in the first inning, but that was the only offense they could manage against Clay County’s Brianda Owens.
Clay County tied things up in the second inning and took a 2-1 lead with a run in the fourth inning.
After the loss South London coach Les Dixon was quick to give credit where he felt credit was due when it came to Clay County.
“We lost to a very good team and our hats go off to Clay County,” Dixon said. “We had three or four opportunities in the first inning, but we let them off the hook and they made us pay for it.
“I’ve always told our kids that when you get opportunities in this game you have to take advantage and we didn’t,” he added.
