LONDON — The North Laurel 9-10-year-old All Stars wrapped up first place in the winner’s bracket of the Little League District 4 Tournament Thursday with a 10-0 win over Pulaski County.

The win means whichever team North Laurel faces out of the loser’s bracket will have to beat the host team twice in a row in order to claim the District 4 Championship banner. Head coach Jonathan Sizemore said he likes his team’s chances of coming out on top against whichever team advances considering they’d have to lose two straight.

“We’re hitting the ball really well right now and I like the way our team is playing as a whole,” Sizemore said. “We’ve been aggressive from the start and that’s the way we feel like this team is set up to play.

“I really feel like we can come out of this thing because it’s not a situation where if we lose one game we’re done,” he added. “I would like to go ahead and win the next game and get it over with, but you never know in this game. We just have to come out and play hard like we have been doing.”

North Laurel’s Daria Casey and Emma Smith combined for a no-hitter in the win, while the offense allowed the team to end things in four innings.

After leaving a pair of runners on base in the first inning, North Laurel scored four runs on four hits in the second inning to grab a 4-0 lead.

A hit, three walks and an error led to four more runs in the third inning, pushing North Laurel’s lead to 8-0 heading into the fourth inning.

Back-to-back hits by Taylor Jones and Kambrie Collier in the fourth set up Haven Houston with a chance to win the game and she did just that with a triple to right field that made the score 10-0.

Houston’s game-ending hit was her third of the game as she was a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
