MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — South Laurel’s Megan Smith struck out eight batters and allowed only two hits during the Lady Cardinals’ 9-0 win over Bellbrock, Ohio, Tuesday.
She also came through at the plate, connecting with two hits, including a home run and four RBIs.
“She was on fire,” South Laurel coach James Burns said. “I thought we played better today, too. It was a good win against a quality team.”
Brittany Vandeventer went 3-for-3 at the plate, which included driving in a run and connecting with a double, while Bailey Miller was 3-for-4 with a run scored.
The Lady Cardinals (5-3) scored seven runs in the first inning on six hits and never looked back. They also added runs in the fourth and sixth innings.
“I thought we were more focused out there today,” Burns said. “We had a good day hitting the ball and we played well all-around. I’m hoping tomorrow we can leave here with a win.”
