Whitley County improves to 6-2 with win over JC

CORBIN —

By Les Dixon / Sports Editor

JACKSON COUNTY — The Whitley County Colonels broke open a tight 1-0 game against Jackson County by scoring two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to knock off the Generals, 5-1.

The Colonels (6-2) received a solid effort from Jordan Crusenberry on the mound, as he scattered four hits while allowing one unearned run during the four-run victory.

The win is Whitley County’s fifth out of their last six games.

“We are progressing,” Whitley County coach Kyle Adams said. “At times it’s been hard for us to get up for the games right now and I believe weather has a lot to do with it. It’s been raining and cold and I believe it’s also been the case with other teams, too. I’ve talked to some of the other coaches we’ve played and they have said the same thing.

“We’ve yet to play a game all together, but we are getting close. Right now, we are trying to do our best to do whatever we can to get base runners on and then get them in and we did that today.”

Michael Harris, Alex Rose and Keaton Logan each drove in runs during the win while Harris, Cody Lewis, Steven Watson, Rose and Corey Crisologo each finished the game with a hit apiece.

Whitley County took a 1-0 lead in the third inning after a sacrifice by Harris, which scored Crisologo. The Colonels’ lead grew to 3-0 in the fifth inning when both Rose and Crisologo scored on sacrifice flies.

Whitley County put the game away with two more runs in the top of the sixth inning.
