WILLIAMSBURG — It was the last home game of the season for the Williamsburg Lady Yellow Jackets who hosted visiting Harlan Friday evening. Williamsburg was seeking its fourth win of the season on senior night, but the Lady Dragons had other plans.

Harlan came away with a 43-32 victory, improving them to 16-10 on the year.

Willliamsburg's Andrea Ellis commented on her team's effort following the contest.

"I was pretty proud of the girls," Ellis said. "I thought we played pretty good defense and we held them to 43 points, and they are a high scoring team. I thought we did a great job of communication on the defensive end, we just really struggled to score."

The Lady Dragons jumped out to a 12-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. Harlan's Masie Charles, Jourdan Ledford and Shanae Thomas each connected on three-point baskets in the first period to give their team an early advantage.

Williamsburg responded with five players contributing for a total of 12 points in the second quarter. Haley Harris and Erin Maxey combined for seven points in the period to cut the Lady Dragon lead to 19-15 at halftime.

The Lady Dragons' run in the third quarter may have been the overall difference in the outcome. Williamsburg was held to two points in the quarter and Harlan's lead grew to 31-17 by quarter's end.

Masie Charles led the Lady Dragons in scoring during the period as she connected on a three-point field goal, finishing the quarter with five points.

"We couldn't get the ball to fall, we weren't finishing our layups, we struggled at the free throw line," Andrea Ellis said. "It just boiled down to offensively, we just couldn't hit a shot. Their starters came back out with fire and you've got to give them credit for that, we just struggled on the offensive end tonight."

Williamsburg was unable to catch Harlan in the fourth quarter.

Jordan Brock and Torri Mitchell combined for an eight-point scoring effort in the final period of regulation to help push the lead to 19 points.

Wiliamsburg outscored Harlan 15-12 in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Dragon lead was too much for Williamsburg to make a run of their own in the closing minutes.

The Lady Jackets will return to action Feb. 10th at Whitley County.
