CLAY COUNTY — The Whitley County Lady Colonels may have picked up a 3-1 road win over Clay County Monday, but head coach David Halcomb wasn’t too happy with his team’s effort.
After grabbing the first two sets by scores of 25-12 and 25-16, the Lady Colonels dropped the third set 25-23, forcing Halcomb to do something he had never done as a coach.
“I told the girls before we started that I could tell they just weren’t in to it today,” Halcomb said. “After we dropped that third set I made the girls run on the sidelines for the whole three minutes between sets to try and get them to focus.
“That’s a first for me as a coach, but I wanted to get a message across to them that if you don’t come ready to play you will get beat,” he added.
