Williamsburg places second in All ‘A’ Classic State Tournament

CORBIN — By Les Dixon / Sports Editor

SPRINGFIELD — Mother Nature couldn’t keep the Williamsburg Lady Yellow Jacket golf team from turning in a runner-up finish in the Class ‘A’ State Tournament this past weekend.

The Lady Yellow Jackets braved the rain and the cold and finished with a 328, just 10 shots off champion Green County’s 318.

“We had a really bad start in the cold and the rain and play was delayed for one and-a-half hour,” Williamsburg coach Bo Robinson said. “We played the front nine in 175. ”

Williamsburg was led by Kaylee Akins’ 79 while teammates Morgan Walker (81), Beth Jervis (82), Julia Higginbotham (86) and Kacie Cox (99) followed.

“I was so proud of them to show that much heart,” Robinson said. “I can’t say enough about the support our parents and grandparents gave these girls. I also want to thank Williamsburg High School for the support.”
