DESTIN, FLA. — It was the sister act for Corbin at the Destin Community Center Monday night.
Sisters Miranda and Kayla Wilson combined to score 35 points to lead the Lady Redhounds to a 54-36 win over Fort Walton Beach High in the championship game of the Destin Holiday Classic.
Miranda Wilson scored 18 points and was named tournament MVP while Kayla Wilson added 17 to lead Corbin to the easy win.
The Lady Redhounds turned a close game at the half into a rout in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Vikings 16-4 in the period. Corbin held a slim 27-23 lead at the intermission.
"We just lost our focus in the third quarter and all the credit goes to Corbin, they hit some big shots there," said Fort Walton Beach coach Holly McDaniel. "We had a good run and just ran out of gas in the second half."
For Corbin coach Jason McDaniel, the Wilson sisters were the difference.
"They have such great basketball knowledge and get us in the right plays and out of bad ones all the time," McDaniel said. "We played well tonight, shot the ball really well and feel very fortunate to come out of here with three wins."
Mercedez Claybrone led Fort Walton Beach with nine points — well below her tournament average of more than 18 points per game.
