Both the North Laurel and South Laurel boys cross country teams will be making a trip to Saturday’s Class 3A 2008 Boys KHSAA State Cross Country Meet at the Kentucky Horse Park.
North Laurel placed third with 59 points in Class 3A’s 7th Region meet at GE Field in Somerset, while South Laurel followed with a fourth place finish and 95 points.
Southwestern won the meet with 32 points, while Pulaski County followed in second place with 50 points.
The Jaguars turned in a solid performance by placing five of their six runners in the top 15.
Junior Aaron Beckner led North Laurel with a ninth place finish with a time of 18:40.90, while teammates Gregory Randolph (11th, 18:43.30), James Brooks (13th, 18:45.30), Ryan Gaynor (14th, 18:45.90), Robert Melton (15th, 18:50.90), Clay Montgomery (24th, 19:52.90) and Henry Eberhardt (28th, 20:02.90) followed.
South Laurel’s Hunter Sizemore turned in the best effort in the Tri-County with a seventh place finish in a time of 18:29.40. Sizemore was followed by teammates Jeffrey Poston (20th, 19:31.10), Chris Cheek (21st, 19:33.00), Kevin Morgan (22nd, 19:33.40), Blake Walden (29th, 20:08.70), Nick Poston (38th, 21:36.80) and Eric Wright (44th, 21:45.30).
On the girls side, North Laurel’s Meredith Johnson turned out to be the Lady Jaguars’ lone representative to go to the state meet by finishing 11th in a time of 22:39.80.
North Laurel placed sixth in the team standings, while Pulaski County won with a 31-point effort.
The Lady Jaguars’ Anastasia Marcum (25th, 24:47.60), Ashley Woolum (28th, 25:38.80), Mollee Gray (39th, 29:05.60) and Rachel Wright (41st, 30:21.00) also turned in solid efforts.
Macy Clontz (31st, 26:07.80) and Candace Kirby (40th, 29:13.00) were South Laurel’s lone participants.
