No. 2 Lex. Christian pulls out win over No. 3 Corbin

It looked as if the Corbin Redhounds were going to run away with a win on the road against Class A power Lexington Christian, but the Eagles used a 21 point third quarter to pick up a 41-21 comeback win.

The Redhounds (8-2) jumped out to a 14-0 lead after putting together two impressive drives during the first half, but Lexington Christian (9-1) answered with a score before halftime and turned things up a notch once the second half began.

Lexington Christian was limited to only 108 yards in the first two quarters, but finished the game with 438 yards, while the Redhounds totaled 358.

Paul Rains’ squad outscored Corbin 41-7 after falling behind 14 points in the first half, as quarterback Lucas Witt and tailback Dominique Hayden turned in impressive efforts.

Witt threw for two touchdowns, while completing eight-of-14 pass attempts for 125 yards. He also carried the ball 13 times for 65 yards and a touchdown.

But in the end, Hayden just took over.

He scored both of his touchdowns in the second half (56-yard run and a one-yard run) and finished the game with 33 carries and 265 yards rushing. He also had three receptions for 63 yards.

Corbin jumped out to a 14-0 lead thanks to an eight-yard touchdown pass to Caleb Watkins and a four-yard touchdown run by Watkins. The Redhound senior tailback finished the game with 25 carries and 202 rushing yards.

Brandon Burdette’s 58-yard punt return made the score, 14-7, at halftime.

The Eagles took over in the second half, thanks to a couple of turnovers by Corbin.

Witt tied the game at 14 apiece with a five-yard run and his 26-yard touchdown pass to Sam Duff gave Lexington Christian a 21-14 lead.

Hayden’s 56-yard touchdown run made the score 28-14, but Watkins answered with a 67-yard run to cut Corbin’s deficit to 28-21 with :02 remaining in the third quarter.

The Eagles dominated the fourth quarter and put the game out of reach with a nine-yard touchdown pass from Witt to Burdette and a one-yard touchdown run by Hayden.
