Cima’s Redhounds fall 2-0 to Danville

By Chris Parsons / Staff Writer

The Corbin Redhounds’ season came to end Monday thanks to a 2-0 loss to Danville in the Sub-Section 8 finals.

Despite holding the Admirals scoreless in the first half, the Redhounds gave up a pair of second-half goals, sending their season record to 15-6-1.

Despite the loss, Corbin coach Armando Cima said his team won in every category but the scoreboard Monday and it has nothing to hang its head about.

“I think we played a very good match out there tonight,” Cima said. “Maybe the best match we have played all season.

“I really think we won on every level except the scoreboard,” he added. “We won respect, we won admiration and I think we won ourselves a little confidence for next season.

“There are some people who will believe we belonged where we were and you know, it could have very easily been us moving on instead of Danville,” he added.

After going into halftime with no score, Corbin had the first chance to put a number on the scoreboard, but Cima said things didn’t work out.

“We had an opportunity, but it called back due to a handball call,” he said. “It may have been, but I think that was a momentum swing.

“I think if we could have gotten that goal, things would have been different,” he added. “Then, we got some rain in the second half and it just seemed to come at a really inopportune time for us and they took a 1-0 lead.”

Danville pushed its lead to 2-0 with around eight minutes to play and never looked back en route to the win.

Though his team lost, Cima said he considers the season a huge success.

“We accomplished some goals we set forth for this season,” he said. “There were several things we wanted to do and we got them done.

“To me that is a big plus,” he added. “These seniors have worked very hard and they did a good job for me tonight and all season long and I know they have left quite a mark on these young kids. That’s what you want from leaders.”
