The South London Minor league All Stars remained alive after eliminating host Corbin, 14-4, in Minor league All Star Area Tournament action at Corbin’s Rotary Park.
South London received impressive pitching by Blake Burns, Zach Feltner and J.J. Ramey during its 10-run win and will now advance to the loser’s bracket final today against Clay County.
“It was kind of an odd game for us,” South London coach Jason Ramey said. “The players that haven’t been hitting started to hit for us.
“I thought we really came ready to play today,” he added. “We hit the ball well.”
Both teams failed to score in the first inning, but South London took control of the game in the second inning, thanks in part to some aggressive base running and three walks.
Nate Steely connected with a two-run single to highlight the inning, while Feltner and Ramey also drove in runs. Seven runs scored in the inning, as Ryan Anders, Steely, Ramey, Gambrel, Conner Bain, Mason Dozier and Feltner each scored.
South London added five more runs in the bottom of the third inning to take an 11-0 edge, as Anders and Dozier each scored. Three runs scored on a routine grounder, which turned into three errors by Corbin.
The Corbin All Stars got back in the game in the top of the fifth inning by scoring four runs, but South London wrapped up the win with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
“We tried to save some of our pitching tonight and we were able to do it,” Ramey said. “We can throw four to five guys against Clay County, so that will be a big plus.
“I think we should be fine against them, as long as we don’t beat ourselves,” he added.
Today’s game against Clay County is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
