Vipers improve to 4-0 with sweep of Williamsburg
Special to The Times-Tribune
The Southern Kentucky Vipers improved to 4-0 on the season after upending Williamsburg twice in a doubleheader this past week.
Southern Kentucky won its first game, 20-3, and responded in the nightcap with a 25-4 victory.
“We hit the ball well at times, but we still need to work on our defensive play,” coach David Byrd said. “I tip my hat to Williamsburg because they have improved each time we have played them.
“The Williamsburg coaches and players have worked really hard to improve and will be a tough team to beat in the future,” he added.
Byrd said he expects his team to continue to improve as the season progresses.
“We’re going to play close to a 30-game schedule, so we’ve got to begin to hit the ball better,” he said. “We hit the ball well in spurts, but to get to the next level, we’ve got to hit better.
“I thought our defense improved as the game went on, but we still made a few mistakes here and there,” Byrd added. “Halia Stidham made a heck of a catch in the outfield.”
