Strong outing

By Travis Smith / Staff Writer

With Corbin White leading South London White 5-2 in the top of the fifth inning, Corbin managed to send 18 batters to the plate, picking up twelve additional runs to take a 17-2 win over South London during Minor League All-Star action Tuesday at Rotary Park.

For the inning, Corbin picked up nine walks, five singles and a double before South London could get out of the inning.

After holding South London to no runs in the bottom of the inning, Corbin was able to pick up the fifteen run victory.

Corbin scored its first run of the game in the first inning when Matt Hart crossed home plate after a wild pitch. Hart reached base earlier on a lead-off single.

South London had a chance in the first inning to get back the run, however, they left three men stranded on base. For the game, South London stranded nine base runners, including two bases loaded situations.

Corbin opened up its lead in the top of the third when they picked up four more runs to take a 5-0 lead.

But South London was able to cut into Corbin’s lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, after Matthan Fields hit a two RBI single.

However, that was all the runs South London would get as Corbin ran away with the game during its big fifth inning.

For the game, Corbin sent a total of 38 batters to the plate, collecting nine hits, drawing 13 walks and striking out nine times. Six of their runs came on wild pitches that got behind the South London catcher, while three of their runs were walked in.

A total of seven runs were batted in during the five inning game.

South London sent 26 batters to the plate, striking out four times, picking up six hits and drawing six walks.

While the loss ends South London’s season, Corbin will be back on the field today when they take on South London Red.

Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Rotary Park.
