Corbin youth softball now sanctioned by Little League

By Les Dixon / Sports Editor

The fifth year of the Corbin softball league looks to be the best.

It is now being sanctioned by Little League, which will allow the Corbin Little League program to be able to participate in All Star participation beginning in July for the Minor League and Little League divisions.

“This is great,” Corbin softball coach Chris Hart said. “I’m going to be in charge of the softball Little League program, but Jeff Chadwell is the president of the Little League.

“There is a big difference with this being sanctioned through the Little League,” he added. “Now we will start being able to participate in the All Star tournaments and that will be big for the girls, too.”

The Corbin Little League will offer softball for seven and eight-year olds (coach pitch), nine and 10-year olds (machine and player pitch) and 11 and 12-year olds (player pitch).

“This is an exciting time,” Hart said. “The league is exactly five- years old and we are already seeing the benefits of it. Most of our seniors and players on the high school softball team participated in the league and we have put together a very nice season.

“Having the league sanctioned by the Little League is huge,” he added. “This is a big step for us and it will allow us to compete with the other Little League organizations across the state.”

Sign-ups are being taken at the Corbin Recreation Center and the games will be played at the Corbin High School Field.

“Our softball complex is one of the best around and I’m very excited for this to begin,” Hart said.

Corbin Little League president Jeff Chadwell did not return phone call attempts.
