Yellow Jackets sting B’ville

Williamsburg scored early and often en route to a 17-1 win over visiting Barbourville.

The Yellow Jackets (13-7) scored two runs in the first inning, five in the second and exploded for seven in the third to jump out to a commanding 14-1 lead after three innings.

Barbourville (7-8) never recovered and only managed two hits in the game against Williamsburg freshman pitcher Cody Perkins.

“He pitched all five innings,” Williamsburg coach Don Stricklin said. “He just gave up two hits and had four strike outs. It was a pretty good effort. He is a freshman and did well.”

The Yellow Jackets collected 12 hits and forced the Tigers to commit five errors.

“I think we were patient today,” Stricklin said. “We were patient at the plate and didn’t swing at a lot of pitches. Today we took what we could get and swung at strikes and hit the ball well.”

Williamsburg will return to action today at Knox Central. The game was originally scheduled for later in the week, but was moved ahead a day to avoid potential bad weather. The game is set to start at 5:30 p.m.
