North Laurel routes Jackson County 53-34
By Travis Smith / Staff Writer
The North Laurel Lady Jaguars went on the road Monday to face off against the Jackson County Lady Generals, coming away with a 53-34 win.
"We played an exceptional defensive game," said North Laurel coach Roy Bowling. "We came out and took care of business."
The Lady Jaguars made their statement early, outscoring the Lady Generals 14-6 in the first quarter. Kayla Bargo and Caitie Jackson led North Laurel with 12 points each followed by Makenzie Prichard, who had 10 points.
In the second quarter, North Laurel continued to control the game defensively, holding Jackson County to single digit scoring with only seven points while adding an additonal 17 to their tally.
As the first half came to a close, the Lady Jaguars saw themselves holding onto a comfortable 31-13 lead going into the second half.
As the third period got underway, North Laurel saw its lead slightly diminish as the Lady General's, outscored the Lady Jaugars 15-9, enabling them to cut the North Laurel lead to 12, 40-28.
But coach Roy Bowling and company would not allow Jackson County to get too confident, seemingly shutting the Lady Generals out in the final quarter, holding them to a mere six points while adding 13 more to their game total allowing them to secure a 19-point victory and pick up their eighth win of the season.
But North Laurel will only get a few days rest before their next test, which will be a road trip Friday as they travel to Richmond to take on the Madison Central Lady Indians. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
