Tonya Faulkner has been tapped as the new principal at Oak Grove Elementary School, according to a press release issued by the district.
Faulkner was chosen by the school’s site based decision making council during a meeting Wednesday. She fills the vacancy left by former principal Regina Paul, who was transferred July 1 to the Whitley County Board of Education as the gifted and talented coordinator and director of public relations.
Faulkner, who was named interim principal after Paul’s transfer, has served as assistant principal at the school for six years. She is a Whitley County graduate and began her career as a kindergarten teacher at Oak Grove in 2000.
Another press release announced that Steve Powers, who had been principal at the Whitley Alternative School, has been transferred to Oak Grove as the new assistant principal. For the past 14 years, Powers has served as principal at the Whitley County Alternative School. His professional background includes 23 years of teaching special education and administrative roles.
Both Faulkner and Powers assumed their new roles Thursday.
