Heading to nationals
Team seeks donations for trip to Washington, D.C. on May 30-31

After successfully competing at the state level, the Corbin Middle School Science Olympiad A Team took home the first place trophy on April 26. The competition took place at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. Three out of the past four years, Corbin Middle School has claimed the state title, and now the team is bound for Washington, D.C. to compete at the national level.
Coached by Ramona Jaynes, Chad Chrisman, Donna Bowling and Missy Evans, the team excelled in most of 23 events. Third-place awards were given to Wayne Logan and Kaylee Moore in “Robo-Cross,” Travis Leech and and Heidi Clark in “Science Crime Busters,” and Kaylee Moore and Jalyn Hill in “Simple Machines.”
Second-place winners were Wade Phipps and Sarah Cleary in “Balloon Launch Glider,” Jeff Dzugan and Wade Phipps in “Ecology,” Sarah Cleary and Heidi Clark in “Mystery Architecture,” Caitlin Robinson and Martin Jones in “Reach for Stars” and Allison Horn and Wayne Logan in “Trajectory.”
First-place winners include Jeff Dzugan and Travis Leech in “Amphibians and Reptiles” and Jeff Dzugan and Brenton Smith in “Oceanography.”
Additional members, Kasey Roberts and Emily Greer, also performed well at the competition.
Members of the B team, who placed 10th overall in state competition include Jared Rose, Austin Powers, Caleb Dunn, Cassidy Phipps, Julie Crawford, Catherine Crawford, Alex Chumbley, Miranda Thomas, Sarah Woolums, Maggie Ballou, Megan Daniels, William Rogers, Jamie King, Stevie Lemmons and Jessica Miller. These students will also be taking the trip to D.C.
The Science Olympiad A team will participate in the national competition held in Washington, D.C. at George Washington University on May 30-31.
