Eliseo Escalante, of Hoot Owl Hollow Lane, Jellico, Tenn., departed this life on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at Jellico Community Hospital in Jellico, Tenn. He was 84 years, 2 months, and 27 days of age. He was born on Nov. 1, 1928, in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, to the late Patrocinio Escalante and Bernabela Garca Escalante. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was also a pastor for more than 50 years and a teacher for more than 65 years.

He is survived by Carolta Escalante, of Jellico, Tenn.; two daughters, Leticia Frazier and husband Carl, of Williamsburg, and Ilsy Hernandez and husband Hector, of Cleveland, Tenn.; two sons, Dr. David Escalante and wife Regina and Harold Escalante, all of Jellico, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Cynthia Hernandez, Elizabeth Taylor, Eliseo Albert Hernandez, Jessica Escalante and Merrilyn Escalante; three great-grandchildren, Daniela Miranda, Lues Reyes and Abeth Reyes; one sister, Herminia Escalante; two brothers, Armando Escalante and Rigoberto Escalante; several nieces, nephews and a host of other family, friends and students to mourn his passing.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at the Jellico Seventh Day Adventist in Jellico, Tenn. with Pastor Hector Hernandez and Pastor Carlos Raminez officiating.

Following an 11 a.m. graveside service for family and close friends on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, he will be laid to rest in the Frazier Family Cemetery in Williamsburg.
