John Brown


TIMES TRIBUNE (CORBIN, Ky.)

CORBIN — John C. Brown, born in Whitley County Aug. 14, 1926, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2103, at his home. He was the eldest son of eight children born to the Rev. and Mrs. Andy (Sarah Skinner) Brown. John married Beatrice Childress on Sept. 18, 1950, in Williamsburg by the Rev. Ben Siler.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. Survivors include his loving wife (Beatrice) of over 63 years, one brother, Dewey E. Brown (wife Dorothy), of Williamsburg, and one sister, Dorothy Hillman, of Waynesville, Ohio. He was loved by many nieces and nephews.

John was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran, serving most of his time in the army in the South Pacific. He received several medals for his service.

John was a founding member of the Cumberland Freewill Baptist Church. He helped build the church there in 1964. He was highly respected as a minister of prophecy at his church and later served in the mission field in Phoenix, Ariz. He also helped with organizing the Brush Arbor here in town in 1962.

John (also known to loved ones as Jay) worked on the stone work at many buildings at the Cumberland College. He also built several homes in the area and repaired some of the old stone work and rock walls seen around the college. John will be missed by many in the area of Kersey Road where he and Bea were treated like family. They resided there for more than 40 years.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, at the Ellison Funeral Home Chapel in Williamsburg with the Rev. Larry Waddell and Arvil Liford officiating. Following the service he will be laid to rest in the Cumberland Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Friday Sept. 27, 2013, at the Ellison Funeral Home Chapel.

Pallbearers will be Michael Garrett, Scott Mullis, Gary Mullis and Greg Callahan

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Ken Reed, Ernie Lawson Clyde Rose, Joey Roberts and Kearney Detillier.
