Samuel Lewis Bowman, of Lot Mud Creek Road, Williamsburg, departed this life on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at the Jellico Community Hospital in Jellico, Tenn. He was 83 years, 2 months, and 10 days of age. He was born on Feb. 20, 1930, in Whitley County, to the late Daniel Byrd Bowman and Martha Jane Gordon Bowman.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Maggie Siler.
He was a member of the Clearfork Baptist Church and a dedicated supporter of the Shriners Children Hospital. Mr. Bowman also dug over 100 graves never receiving any money from his friends for his services.
He is survived by his sister, Ethel Lawson (James), of Indianapolis, Ind.; one brother, William Lish Bowman (Lora), of Indianapolis, Ind.; many nieces and nephews including Wanda Sears, Martha Bryant, Mary Beavers, Janet Gilreath, Ruth Ann Bowlin, Eddie Bowman, Denny Bowman, Joyce Faye Justice, Charles Bowman, R.L. Godsey, Bonnie Gilreath, Betty Baird and Jenny; special nurse, Connie Henderson; and a host of many other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013 at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Horace Partin and the Rev. Woody Jackson officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Anderson-Siler Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Arvil Carpenter, Bob Jones, Bob Davis, Dr. Lee Durham, Roudy Durham and Lee Durham Jr. Mr. Charlie Siler will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
