William Cox

CORBIN — William Paul Cox, age 89, of Corbin, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, at Baptist Health Corbin.

Born in Gray, he was the son of the late Riddell Cox and Nannie Rapier Cox. William had been a die maker for Ford Motor Co. in Michigan; was Baptist by faith; and was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He enjoyed creative writing, especially poems and essays.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ruby Collette; and two brothers, K. Earl Cox and Fred Cox.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Cox; two children: Gregory Lee Cox and wife Glenda, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and Kevin Lamont Cox and wife Shaun, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four step-children: Debbie Ray, of Lake Worth, Fla.; Byron Hervey, of Franklin County, N.C.; Vickie McCleary, of Boynton Beach, Fla.; and James Halstead, of Corbin; sister, Lucy B. Shelton, of Corbin; brother, George Thomas Cox, of Corbin; nine grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 pm on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Joe Eaton officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from noon on Saturday until the time of the funeral.
